Biden: I am a Zionist

Presidential candidate Barack Obama announced yesterday that his running mate will be Senator Joe Biden. Below is an excerpt from an interview that was done by Shalom TV with Biden.

When I was a young Senator, I used to say, "If I were a Jew I'd be a Zionist." I am a Zionist. You don't have to be a Jew to be a Zionist.

The prospects of peace in the Middle East don't look promising when the possible VP of the US is an open Zionist.

I doubt there are many american politicians who aren't fanatically pro-Israel. They have a title for a senator who isn't pro-Israel. It's FORMER senator...

Biden’s son married into a Jewish family, but his keen interest in the region dates back to his first visit as a U.S. senator, not long before the 1973 Yom Kippur. He met Israel’s then-prime minister, Golda Meir.

He came away from that meeting understanding that “there is this inextricable tie between culture, religion, ethnicity that most people don’t fully understand—that is unique and so strong with Jews worldwide,” Biden said in an interview with Shalom TV last year, when he launched his own presidential bid. “When I was a young senator, I used to say, ‘If I were a Jew I’d be a Zionist.’ I am a Zionist. You don’t have to be a Jew to be a Zionist.’”

A Gallup poll in June 1948 showed that almost three times as many Americans "sympathized with the Jews" as "sympathized with the Arabs." That support was no flash in the pan. Widespread gentile support for Israel is one of the most potent political forces in U.S. foreign policy, and in the last 60 years, there has never been a Gallup poll showing more Americans sympathizing with the Arabs or the Palestinians than with the Israelis.

POLL: MORE AMERICANS ARE PRO-ISRAELI

NEW GALLUP SURVEY REVEALS ISRAEL IS ONE OF FIVE COUNTRIES AMERICANS FEEL MOST FAVORABLY ABOUT; PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY RANKS NEAR BOTTOM ALONG WITH IRAN, NORTH KOREA

Biden is a zionist? Eeeewwww. I bet Obama brought him in just to win over the voter groups Obama wasn't that strong with, such as the Jewish community or the Catholic community (Biden is Irish-Catholic).

And there are a good handful of people in Washington who aren't pro-Israel. Kucinich is one, Gravel is another.

America likes Israel and hates Arab terrorists. I'm not surprised.
